To Namo Buddha Buddhist monastery and temple, a holy site where the Buddha in his past life came upon a starving mother tigress and devoted his own body to feed the mother and his cubs. A cave is devoted to this legend. Take time to join in the pujas or offerings and lectures and watch the devotees and monks engaged in study and work. A lovely 45-minute walk through pine forest.

To Dapcha, a charming medieval hamlet with wooden houses stacked on a narrow ridge visible from the farm.

Rounding the hilltop itself is a small reserve of dwarf pines and flowering bushes.

There is always a settlement to walk through or a visit to the village school to distract you. Tired out, take the public bus for a few rupees anywhere along the main dirt road to the junction of Phulbari ridge. This is the way to rural Nepal.
