He is a photographer, graphic artist and printer by training. From his early student days as a compulsive traveler, he has sketched, painted, photographed and written of his adventures. Hans transforms his encounters into his unique art form, which he discovered in the late 70s and simply calls "PhotoWorks".

Among his favorite objects are doors, windows, stairs and chairs.

"These are objects touched or used by man. Like actors on a stage of life, they have developed their own personalities. If only they could talk ... Their story is that of motion and transition in time."

He starts with a common instant Polaroid picture: "Those that squeeze out from the camera and develop in front of your eyes!" He has about 30 minutes to touch and manipulate the photographic dyes while they develop, fix and settle in their final form. He uses minute dentist instruments on a steel plate mounted directly on the back of his camera.

"To do this, I have to stop dead in my tracks. I have to submerge myself into an intensive, intimate artistic exercise, wherever I am. Everything I do to the picture there and than is final."

The rest is high tech and often happens month or years after the first event. More image manipulations with laser scanners, modern printing machines and inks, all run under Hans' supervision to his desired results, limited editions of lithographic prints, each individually approved, numbered and signed.

Photoworks are included in the Permanent Collection of Art of Polaroid, but have been exhibited only once in 1986. All images are 60 x 60 cm have been specially created for this exhibition.

Prints are individually sold and framed. Home delivery can also be arranged.
